New General Purpose Fibre Discs Give the 3M Touch to Every Job

Superb value, blue general purpose fibre discs offer good performance and stability at a highly competitive price.

3M United Kingdom PLC has developed a new range of fibre discs for a wide variety of general purpose metalworking applications. The new 3M 581C Fibre Discs use a reliable alumina zirconia abrasive, giving good performance on mild and stainless steels for all purpose metal finishing in the transportation, construction, and general metal fabrication sectors.

Designed for applications where low grinding pressures or premature contamination prevent users from getting the full value out of more expensive, hi-technology grinding discs, 581C fibre discs are extremely cost-competitive.

A heavyweight, thermoformed fibre backing means the disc precisely matches the shape of its backing pad, ensuring even grinding without problems caused by disc-creasing or rippling. Dimensional stability during use is further ensured by slots around the attachment area on the larger disc sizes, which provide secure attachment to the back-up pad without wrinkling, for long disc life and a good finish.

Discs also need to maintain their shape during storage. This is ensured by 3M’s innovative clamp storage system. All discs are supplied shrink wrapped in a handy clamped stack which prevents loss and eliminates distortion, even in difficult, damp, cold, conditions.

“These new discs give 3M quality and performance in an area where users might typically not have paid much attention to their choice of fibre disc,” says Jonathan McGargle, Business Development Manager at 3M Abrasive Systems. “Once they have experienced the impressive performance, convenience and value of the 581C discs, we are sure that anyone looking for general purpose fibre discs will insist on the blue discs with the 3M logo.”

3M 581C Fibre Discs are available in 100mm, 115mm, 125mm, 180mm diameters and grades 24, 36, 50, 60, 80 and 120.
