ATI Garryson and CP Desoutter Tackle HAV Issues

28 July 2006
In recent years, the increasing importance of health and safety at work, driven by constantly reviewed legislation and the growing number of personal injury claims, means HAV (hand and arm vibration) issues are becoming a major business within UK industry, with many firms of consultants and solicitors being founded to work for employees compensation and record claim figures constantly being challenged.

The new hand and arm vibration legislation came into force for the UK market in July 2005. The subject of HAV is an issue all people using power tools and ancillary products need to tackle. This has led to customers looking towards high quality manufacturers that place great emphasis on the ergonomics and operators safety elements of design.

Responsible manufacturers have gone a step further to address problems of HAV and noise exposure. Simply looking at manufacturers’ data on vibration levels is inadequate because these are measured mainly in laboratory conditions. The only accurate way of obtaining this data is to measure the levels on the customer application.

When operators are looking for value for money tools and ancillary products they should consider the long-term benefit of an investment in quality products and expert advice.

ATI Garryson abrasive & burr manufacture and CP Desoutter tool & equipment manufacturer, have a number of fully qualified IOSH /HAV experts who are able to offer THS Members technical support and advise on vibration issues as well as being able to help with end user risk assessments. A two day IOSH training programme is also available upon request.

ATI Garryson’s new product development programme is focused on ensuring that we develop products that help to reduce operator’s exposure time to harmful vibration.

Premium Zirc+ Flapdisc which is ideal for Austentic stainless steel, is engineered to do just that. The NEW disc has been proven to reduce operator’s exposure time to harmful vibration by up to 50%.
